Wana Stacia (McKee)Owen, age 91, of Kansas City, MO, passed away Sunday, October 19, 2008 at St. Luke?s Hospital.
A gathering of family and friends in celebration of her life will be held 12 ? 1 p.m. Thursday, October 23 at D.W. Newcomer?s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS. Graveside services will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday following the visitation at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Olathe, KS.
Wana Stacia was born November 28, 1916 in Polo, MO. Most of her adult life, she lived in Kansas City with her family. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, Thomas J. Owen, her parents Max and Mae (Stephens) McKee, and her brother Woodrow ?Mac? Rollins McKee. After graduating from Polo High School, she attended William Jewell College and received her teaching certificate from Central Missouri State University. After teaching for several years, she became a full-time homemaker. The passions in Wana Stacia?s life were her family, good books, and cats. Her hobbies included gardening, cooking and sewing.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Alan Oliver, Linda and Alan Wells, Carol Owen, and Margaret Owen; and her grand-daughter Katharine Wells. The family would like to extend their appreciation to all who contributed to her care. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Kansas City Public Library or the American Heart Association.
