Ward E. Stanley
Ward was born September 21, 1917 to Ward and Ruth (Ferguson) Stanley in Kansas City, KS, and left his earthly home surrounded by his loving family on March 10, 2011. Visitation 5-6:30 p.m. with rosary at 6:30, on Monday, March 14, at D. W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park. Funeral Mass 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 15, at Church of the Ascension, 9510 W. 127th, Overland Park. Burial 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 16, Syracuse, KS Cemetery. Ward and Bette DesMarteau were married May 16, 1942; she preceded him in death in 1998. They raised seven children in Syracuse, KS where they lived for almost 50 years. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945. Ward was an insurance and agricultural real estate broker for many years and was well-respected by all that had any dealings with him. He was an avid golfer until his health deteriorated and he was unable to participate, although he continued to enjoy it on television. Ward was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, four brothers, a granddaughter and a great-granddaughter. Survivors include one brother, Dan Stanley, two sisters, Pat Myers and Darlene Wilds, daughters Carol (Terry) Jones of Wichita, Kathy Wilson and Debbie Baker of Overland Park, Ruthie Hammond of Dallas, three sons, Ward (Margarita) Stanley of Dubai, U.A.E., Rich Stanley of Colorado Springs, John (Connie) Stanley) of Overland Park, bonus daughter Kristi Fontenot of Colorado Springs, as well as 27 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to the Syracuse Golf Club, Syracuse, Kansas, or the Syracuse Cemetery Veteran’s Memorial Fund, Syracuse, Kansas.
