Warren Gerald "Jerry" Smith, 74, passed away Friday, May 31, 2013, at his home.
Jerry was born July 1, 1938, in Sidney, Montana, to Warren and Gladys Smith. He attended University of Denver and graduated from Rockhurst College with a degree in Accounting. Jerry also played basketball while attending college. He and his brother owned a Chicken Delight franchise in the late 60's and later owned his own livestock insurance agency. Through his business achievements he was able to purchase land in Montana and build a cabin, which became he and his wife's summer retreat. Jerry loved to travel, camp, fish, hike, wildlife watching and enjoyed time spent with his granddaughters. He loved to read history books and was an excellent cook.
He was recently preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Diane Smith, parents and brother, Tom Smith.
Jerry is survived by his two sons, Mark Smith and Scott Smith and sister, Gloria Straughan.
A memorial service for Jerry will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 8, 2013, at DW Newcomer's Sons – Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS.
