Mr. Warrren Strickland

February 19, 1928 — August 29, 2007

Warren Murray Strickland, age 79, of Stilwell, KS died August 29, 2007 at Overland Park Regional Hospital.

Warren was born in Tulsa Oklahoma to Robert Columbus and Myrtle (Williams) Strickland. He was a WWII Marine Corps veteran. He was a graduate of Oklahoma Baptist University. He moved to Kansas in 1960 and lived in Wichita, Overland Park and Stilwell. He was an IBM Systems Engineer for 31 years, retiring in 1991. He was an active member of the Shawnee Mission Sertoma Club for 37 years, serving as president from 1979-1980. He was very active in the Methodist Church, Asbury (OKC), West Heights (Wichita) and held most chair positions at Indian Heights (OP) and Stilwell UMC. These included SUMC Administrative Board chairman (1983-1985) during the building of the new sanctuary. Many people were blessed by his beautiful hand crafted woodwork that he generously donated. Especially, the 250 wooden cars yearly to the CrossLines Christmas Store. He was an assistant Boy Scout leader, baseball and soccer coach. Warren loved the beach, traveling, attending the theater and playing golf (spending 16 years as a volunteer at the Heritage Park Golf Course.)

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers (Robert & Donald Strickland), and one grandson (Shawn Strickland.) He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Rhoda M. Strickland of the home. three sons; John (Cheryl) Strickland, Morgantown, KY; Michael (Gina) Short, Hewitt, TX; Dennis (Jennifer) Strickland, Stilwell, KS; two daughters; Chris (Allen) Henning, Olathe, KS, Rochelle (Ron) Mau, Cullowhee, NC. He has 12 grandchildren, Shawn & Joseph Short, Nicholas, Alexander, Gregory & Christopher Henning, Ronnie & Rusty Mau, Crystal & Bradley Strickland, Colin & Kathryn Strickland, and one brother, Marland Strickland OKC.

A memorial service will be Wednesday, September 5, 2007, 10 a.m. at Stilwell United Methodist Church, 19335 Metcalf. Family will receive visitors Tuesday, September 4, 2007 from 6:30-8 p.m. at the church. The family suggests contributions to the church fund for an Infrared Hearing System.
