Wayne Gordon English, age 91, of Leawood, Kansas, passed into eternal life on April 30, 2013, at The Manor at Grace Gardens. Wayne was born on March 12, 1922, in Albion, Pennsylvania, to Walter C. English and Ruth L. English. He attended The Ohio State University, where he studied accounting and enjoyed playing trumpet in the OSU marching band, TBDBITL. After graduating from college, Wayne joined the U.S. Army Air Corps. After World War II, Wayne started his career in finance with Ford Motor Company in Detroit. His career changes took him to Aeroquip Corp., The Pullman Company, Trans World Airlines, Hallmark Cards and MCI Communications Corporation, where he served as Chief Financial Officer and a member of the Board of Directors. His civic and business endeavors included service as President of the Jackson, Michigan, School Board and a member of the Board of Directors of several companies, including First National Bank of Kansas City. Wayne was a voracious reader and an avid golfer. He was a proud Buckeye and took pleasure in receiving letters from students who benefitted from a scholarship fund that he established at the OSU Fisher Business School. He is survived by his four children, Jeffrey (Pamela), Michael (Angelia), Susan and Richard (Lauren), seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at D.W. Newcomer's, 11200 Metcalf Ave, with interment immediately following. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to The Ohio State University, 1480 W. Lane Avenue, Columbus, OH 43221, to be added to the Wayne English Scholarship Fund, fund # 601999.
