Mr. Wayne Lovely

November 16, 1920 — December 18, 2006

Wayne F. Lovely, devoted and loving husband and father, passed from this earth on Monday, December 18, 2006 at the Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, Kansas due to complications from Parkinson?s disease at the age of 86. Mr. Lovely was a resident of Overland Park, Kansas.

Mr. Lovely was born in 1920 in Fountain Green, Illinois on the family farm. He attended Carthage, Illinois high school, where he graduated in 1938 with honors and played varsity baseball. Mr. Lovely spent his entire professional career as an Engineer in the radio and television broadcast industry. He began his career in 1939 with WCAZ radio in Carthage, Illinois. From 1942 until 1946, Mr. Lovely worked as an Engineer at WTAD radio in Quincy, Illinois. I n 1943 he married the love of his life, Esther Sartorius, in Hannibal, MO. From 1946 through 1974, Mr. Lovely lived in Peoria, Illinois where he was Chief Engineer for WEEK radio and later, TV from 1949 through 1974. Between 1969 and 1974, Mr. Lovely also served as a consultant with WBYS radio in Canton, Illinois. From 1974 until his retirement in 1984, he was Chief Engineer of WSJV-TV in South Bend/Elkhart, Indiana. Mr. Lovely was a pioneer in UHF television broadcasting. During his career, he testified at hearings before the Federal Communications Commission on proposed rule changes within the broadcast industry. He was a member of the National Association of Broadcasters. Mr. Lovely was also an audiophile and amateur radio enthusiast for many years during his lifetime. Upon his retirement in 1984, Mr. Lovely and his bride of 63 years moved to Naples Park, Florida where they enjoyed active and fulfilling retirement years before relocating to Overland Park in 2005. During his retirement years, he enjoyed working on extensive home projects, landscaping, shopping at garage sales, fine dining and watching sporting events on television.

Mr. Lovely was preceded in death by his parents, Orien and Hattie of Plymouth, Illinois and by his brother, Lowell of Pekin, Illinois. He is survived by his loving wife, Esther, of Overland Park and his son, Robert, also of Overland Park.
