Mrs. Wendy Layne Caulfield-Thonney

June 21, 1954 — November 11, 2010

Wendy Layne Caulfield-Thonney, 56, of Overland Park and Walla Walla, Washington, went home to be in the arms of her Lord and Savior on Thursday, November 11. A lifelong Kansas City-area resident and 1972 graduate of Shawnee Mission West, she passed away at St. Luke’s Hospital on the Plaza. Wendy will be remembered for her faith, compassion, strong will, creativity and love of life. She had a strong love and connection to her pets and all animals that she knew. Shortly after attending the University of Kansas, Wendy began courageously battling health issues that would affect her for the rest of her life. She loved to travel, and Colorado was a favorite destination. She was married there in a beautiful mountainside church and ceremony in 2002 to Doug Thonney. Wendy also was very active in the lives of her eight nieces and nephews, one great nephew and one great niece, who all live in different areas of the country. Wendy was a beloved daughter, sister, wife and aunt, and she will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her father Calvin Caulfield and is survived by: her mother, Martha Caulfield, Overland Park; grandmother Jane Phillips, Overland Park; husband Doug Thonney, Walla Walla, Washington; sister Debbie Ray, her husband Sam, their daughter Rachel and her son, Slade, their son Matt his wife, Brooke, and newborn daughter, Tenley Grace; and sons Jordan and Hunter, Dallas area; brother Tim Caulfield, his wife Julie and daughters Jessica and Kathryn, Chicago area; brother Randy Caulfield, Overland Park; brother Steve Caulfield, his wife Robyn and sons Asher and Camden, Overland Park; as well as many other relatives and friends. A visitation will be held on Sunday, November 14, from 6 to 8 p.m., at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Avenue in Overland Park. Funeral services are scheduled for noon on Monday, November 15, also at the D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel.
