Wesley Rostocil Jr.

December 1, 1933 — June 27, 2018

Wesley Frank Rostocil, Jr., 84, of Olathe, KS, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2018 after a long battle with pneumonia. On Monday July 2, there will be visitation at 1 pm, with services following at 2 pm, at Johnson County Funeral Chapel & Memorial Gardens.

Wesley was born to the late Helen and Wesley Frank Rostocil, Sr. at Research Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. Early in his life, Wesley was called Frank to differentiate him from his father. He was also immediately given the nickname “Skeets” due to his very long legs. Frank’s love of color and painting became apparent at a young age: when left to his own devices, he found a can of paint, a brush and proceeded to paint his grandparents’ dog gold!

Frank graduated from Shawnee Mission High School (now Shawnee Mission North) and attended the University of Michigan. He channeled his creativity and artistic ability into a long career as a drafter at several local architecture and engineering firms. After retiring, he realized his dream of becoming an artist. His paintings express his creativity, unique style and contain much more than meets the eye; like the man who created them.

Always ahead of the times, Frank signed up with a computer dating service in 1975 and met his wife, Virginia. The two remained faithfully married for 35 years, loyally caring for one another until her passing in 2011. Family was of the utmost importance to Frank and Virginia, who always proclaimed their daughter Ruth and grandson Noah as their pride and joy.

Frank was an exceptional man: artistic, witty, determined, with a great zest for life, and a keen sense of humor. His loves included “good” (as defined by his standards) architecture, modern art and fast cars. He had a huge appetite for bacon which appears to have been inherited by subsequent generations. His charm and mischievous smile will be remembered by everyone who knew him.

Later in life, his friends at Homestead Assisted Living and Nottingham Health & Rehabilitation knew him as Wesley – a name he assumed in an effort be more appealing to the ladies he was constantly trying to “court.” The family would like to thank all the staff who helped care for him in his later years. Wesley is survived by his sister Linda Marcelli of Gulfport, FL, daughter Ruth Chan, son-in-law David and grandson Noah of Olathe, KS, and numerous nieces and nephews.
