WILDA YVONNE CHAPMAN, 77, passed away at her home in Leawood on Sunday, September 16, 2012. Services will be on Friday, September 21st at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf in Overland Park, KS. Visitation from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 p.m. with funeral service directly following.
Wilda is survived by her husband, Ronald Chapman. They have been married fifty-eight years. Born from this marriage was a daughter, Renell Knight (Ralph), a son Scott Chapman (deceased) and twin sons, Todd (Brenda) and Dr. Tom (Dr. Karen).
Wilda has one brother, Ron Boggs (Carolyn). Also surviving are ten grandchildren; several cousins and their spouses and some really close friends. Wilda is, at this moment, reuniting with family members in heaven which include, Thelma and Oren W. Boggs (parents) her son Scott Chapman, plus many grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Wilda was, as her nine year old niece Erin said, "The most beautiful girl she had ever seen." Wilda and Ronald were ballroom dance instructors for many years. During her career, she performed in many exhibition competitive dances in large citites throughout the U.S.
Wilda was very social and always dressed and groomed beautifully. She had many dogs during her lifetime and loved each one so much. Ron and Wilda spent some very happy times at their condo at the Lake of the Ozarks.
Wilda was diagnosed with ALS two years ago. She fought this treacherous beast with a vengeance and inner strength. Of course, this is a battle that cannot be won by any of the one out of 10,000 people this disease attacks. If Wilda could speak to us now, she would thank her husband for the 24/7 care he gave her. At the end of her life there were other medical people hired to take care of her. Her brother, Ron Boggs, moved mountains to get the best professionals that do in-home care. Ron's wife, Carolyn was very helpful in the research she did to assist Ron in his quest for the help his sister needed.
At the onset of her illness, her cousin, Karen Gioia (Hank) took her to doctor appt's etc. Wilda, never having a sister, named Karen "her twisted sister". Just a joke between sisters when Wilda was still able to enjoy life. In the last months of her life, Karen spent time with her daily.
We speak for Wilda when she says thank you for the care she received from Patty, Sherri, Mary, Teresa, Marti and especially Dr. April McVey, Dr. Richard Dubinsky and Anita Hill from the department of Neurology at KU Medical Center. Thank you, all of you from the bottom of her heart. A special thank you to her doctor and friend of many years, Dr. Donald Cohen. Also, a thank you to Bob Faulkner for always being there for her when she needed a friend. We will miss you "beautiful girl".
