William Bucher

William A. Bucher, 88, passed away May 8, 2014. William (Bill) Arthur Bucher, Jr. was born October 5, 1925, in Leavenworth, KS, to William A. and Dorothy C. Bucher. The family moved to Kansas City, MO, in 1927 where he attended Central High School. Upon graduation in 1943, he was anxious to enlist in the Army Air Corp and served as Radar Navigator with the 9th Air Force in Europe during World War II. Following the war, he attended Baker University from 1946-1949 graduating with a BA degree in Economics. While there, he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity serving in various leadership roles.
On August 8, 1948, he married his lifelong partner and love of his life, Dorothy L. Kessler. They soon moved to Indiana where he completed his MBA in Management and Finance from Indiana University in 1950.
He joined Bendix Corp in 1950 and retired in 1988 after 38 years, serving in numerous management positions, the last 15 years as Manager of Procurement. He was a member of Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church. Bill had an infectious love for camping and instilled that love in his three children with many trips as they grew up. He and Dorothy continued after retirement traveling by RV to 47 states making friends with other RV travelers along the way. He was an avid fly fisherman and a great lover of several dogs throughout his life.
He was a dedicated and loving supporter of his children, who were blessed with learning many great character qualities he expressed in his life. His care and concern for his wife, especially in their later years, became a supreme example of selfless love. He will be greatly missed but not forgotten.
Bill is survived by Dorothy, his wife of 65 years; a brother, Richard F. Bucher and wife Alice, Kennett Square, PA; three children, daughters Michele Gunnoe and husband Robert, Overland Park, KS, and Denise M. Carnright and husband Ronald, Phelps, NY, and son William E. Bucher and wife Teri, Olathe, KS; six grandchildren, Jen M. Piper, Penfield, NY; Ryan W. Bucher and wife Aubrey, Olathe, KS; Jared P. Bucher and wife Alexis, Olathe, KS; Allison M. Gunnoe, Lawrence, KS; Caleb E. Bucher and wife Amanda, Lawrence, KS; Michael E. Gunnoe, Overland Park, KS; Anna L. Bucher, Olathe, KS; two great grandchildren, Mirabel and Gideon Bucher.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Great Plains SPCA Animal Shelter, 5428 Antioch Dr., Merriam, KS 66203.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 12, 2014 at Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS 66210. Family will receive friends at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 12, 2014 at Johnson County Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
