William R. Hovey, Jr., 73, Overland Park, Kansas passed away on September 7, 2011. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, September 10, 2011 at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, Kansas. A visitation will be held from 5-7 PM, Friday, September 9, 2011, also in the chapel. Interment will be in Johnson County Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 6811 Shawnee Mission Pkwy, #202, Mission, KS 66202 in honor of his wife, Ann who is a survivor. Bill was born May 22, 1938 in Kansas City, MO, the only son of Helen and Bill Hovey, Sr. Growing up in the Roeland Park area, Bill attended Shawnee Mission North High School and upon graduation he attended the University of Kansas and UMKC. He was a member of the Delta Chi Fraternity while at UMKC.
Bill married the love of his life, Ann Hoffman in 1960. His career was in Transportation Management, working many years for Montgomery Ward, then for Earp Distribution. Bill enjoyed the outdoors, including golfing, camping, canoeing, fishing, cooking, and gardening. He also enjoyed restoring his 1963 Austin Healy.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 51 years, Ann Hovey; his three children, William R. Hovey, III (Ruth), John Andrew Hovey (Anabel), and Cynthia Ann Beaty (Bob); and seven grandchildren, Alicia, Tommy, Mark, Rebecca, Danny, Ryan, and Ben.
