Mr. William "Larry" Galbreath

June 30, 1936 — November 25, 2009

William Lawrence (Larry) Galbreath, Leawood, KS, 73, passed away unexpectedly of cardiac arrest on November 25, 2009 while vacationing in Rome, Italy with his wife, Joyce Webb Galbreath. Larry was born on June 30, 1936 to Ashford M. and Verena B. Galbreath who preceded him in death.

Larry earned the rank of Eagle Scout and was a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He was a life long Kansas City resident graduating from Central High School in 1954. He was a Third-Generation Civil Engineer earning his B.S. from the University of Kansas in 1958.

Larry was a successful residential developer and builder in Johnson County , Kansas for over 35 years and received numerous awards for his work over the years as a fair and honest businessman. He was a loving and supportive husband to his wife of 53 years and a great role model and so generous to his three daughters. Larry was an extremely involved grandfather and loved his five grandchildren never missing any sports game, music or dance recitals, plays or other activities involving them. Larry was very active everyday walking his grand-dog, Bailey.

He was a very involved member of numerous Kansas City clubs and planning committees and an avid KU basketball fan. Larry enjoyed gardening and taking care of his orchids. He was extremely adept at hitting his head and other extremities as he served as everyone’s handyman. Larry will be sorely missed by all whose lives he touched but all feel blessed to have had him in their lives.

Larry is survived by his wife, Joyce Webb Galbreath, and three daughters, Kimberly D. Galbreath, Lenexa , Cynthia V. Clothier (David), Overland Park and Jill S. Galbreath, Leawood. Larry was a devoted and loving grandfather to five grandchildren: Grant Wm. and Alison J. Clothier and Collin B., Wm. Connor and Cooper W. Smith. He is survived by his mother-in-law, Elsie Webb, and his stepmother, Collene Galbreath, along with his sister, Audrey (Lloyd) Lavely and brother, Ashford (Claudene) Galbreath. He is further survived by a close family friend, Lois Maxwell, sister-in-laws, Marilyn Munsterman, Charlene (Bruce) Varner, Beverly (John) Rolf, brother-in-law, Richard (Alucia) Webb, 20 nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.

A gathering of Larry’s family and friends will be Thursday, December 3, 2009 from 6 to 8 p.m. at The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection-Wesley Chapel, 13720 Roe Blvd, Overland Park, Kansas. A celebration of Larry’s life will be Friday, December 4, 2009 at 1 p.m. also at the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection-Wesley Chapel. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date in Johnson County Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection, the American Heart Association or a charity of your choice. Arrangements by D.W.
