William J. Larson, age 73, of Overland Park, KS died on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at the University of Kansas Medical Center after fighting a courageous seven year battle against Multiple Myeloma. He was born on November 28, 1936 in Boone, IA to Elwyn C. and Lillian D. Larson. He married Maridith Ellsworth in Boone on April 10, 1959.
Bill graduated from Boone High School in 1955, and attended Boone Junior College and Iowa State College. He began his career in the grain industry in 1958, pioneering development of grain conditioning techniques widely used in the commercial grain industry today. He also worked in sales and management in Illinois and Ohio, and retired in 2003 from Allied Callaway Equipment Company in Kansas City. Bill was a former member of the Grain Elevator & Processing Society and the National Feed & Grain Association. He served in the Iowa Army National Guard from 1955 to 1965.
He is survived by his wife Maridith; his brother James Larson of Cedar Rapids, IA; sisters- and brothers-in-law Royalie & Art Weiss of Dike, IA and Chloris & Bill Williams of Boone, IA; nephews Dan (Marta) Anderson, Lance (Shannon) Hubby, niece Dannette Anderson; numerous cousins, great nephews, and nieces. He is also survived by his friend and companion Schnauzer, Shelby.
Visitation will be from 9:30-11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 17th at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS. Memorial services and burial will be at a later date in Boone, IA. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Blood & Marrow Transplant program at the University of Kansas Medical Center.
