William “Bill” Joseph Reitinger, 75, Overland Park, Kansas passes away on January 14, 2022 at home surrounded by family after a long battle with brain cancer. Bill worked in the National Highway Safety Traffic Administration under the U.S. Department of Transportation for 34 years developing highway road safety laws, car safety laws, and played a major role in the development and awareness of MADD and SADD programs. Prior to his government career, Bill worked at Ernst and Young CPA firm in Houston, TX.
Bill was a member of the Holy Cross Church, Alumni of Emporia State University, Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity, and Knights of Columbus. Bill enjoyed fishing, golfing, traveling, Royals baseball and Chief’s football, and family and friend’s gatherings.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Marguerite and William Reitinger and a brother, David Reitinger.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sheryl Reitinger; son, William Reitinger; Grandson, Devin Reitinger (Katie); and two great-granddaughters: Violet and Scarlett; siblings: Bob (Joette), Marcia (Don), Marilyn (John), Danny (Sharron), Becky (Brian), Jimmy (Debbie), and Tina (Les).
Bill will be remembered for his faith and devotion to his family, his religion, his laughter and smile. He will be remembered by his generosity, his guidance and support, mentoring and his knowledge on just about any topic you could think of. Anyone that came to know Bill knew that they could always count on him, trust him, and knew that he would always be there at a moment’s notice.
