William “Mike” Boyd passed away on December 16, 2016 at St. Luke’s South Hospital from a severe infection. He was born on February 16, 1943 in Dennison, Texas and moved to Fortescue, Missouri at a very young age. He moved to the Kansas City area after graduating from high school in Craig, Missouri. Mike began his career as a Meat Cutter with Muehlbach groceries and later with Safeway Food Stores. In 1973 Mike became a Business Agent for Meat Cutters Local 576 and in 1984 he was elected President of the UFCW. After retiring from the UFCW he went to work for RJ Reynolds as a Retail Representative and retired in 2008.
He was Chairman of the Board for Local 576 Health and Welfare Funds, and Pension and a member of the International Advisory Board. Mike attended the George Meany School of Labor Studies in Washington DC.
Mike is survived by his wife, Kay of Overland Park; daughters, Kim Buchanan of Lee’s Summit, MO and Deb (Tim) Jost of St. Louis, MO; 3 grandchildren; a brother; and his 4 legged daughter, Annie of the home.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Ramona Lynn.
He and Kay enjoyed every minute of life together. They traveled most of the states in the US, 17 foreign countries and took many cruises. Rarely did you see them without each other. Mike loved his family and derived his greatest happiness from being with them. His dog Annie brought joy in his life as no one but Mike could understand.
Visitation is Friday, December 23 from 1-2PM, memorial service at 2PM, at Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS.
