Wilma F. James, 78, of Basehor, KS, passed away peacefully at her home on October 2, 2013 surrounded by her loving family.
Wilma was born on October 29, 1934, to Herman and Pauline Kleweno in Ness City, KS. After graduating from Bazine High School, she attended Fort Hays State University receiving both a Bachelor of Music and a Bachelor of Education degree. She was united in marriage to Garland James on July 24, 1979. She touched countless lives sharing her lifelong love of music with others as a teacher in the Kansas City Kansas and Turner School Districts for 43 years and then later as a private music instructor. In 2005, the Basehor Chamber of Commerce recognized her passion and presented her with the "Spirit Award" for keeping the spirit of music and family alive in our youth.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Darlene Demoret and Katherine Slack. She is survived by her husband Garland; sons and their spouses, Barry Landauer (Annette), John Landauer (Kathy), Neil James, Eric James (Robin), and Wesley James; grandchildren, Ryan Landauer, Rachel Landauer, Season Tingler, Darrin James, Kayla James, Kristin James, Kati Moore Lewis, and Daniel Fairfax; brother, Larry Kleweno; and sister, Marlene Trible.
A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at 1 pm on Sunday, October 6, 2013 at Westside Family Church, 8500 Woodsonia Dr Lenexa, KS 66227. Visitation will be the night before from 5 – 7 pm also at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Vitas Hospice Care, 13316 W. 98th Street, Lenexa, KS 66215.
