Wilmer Edgar Kroll, a long time resident of Palos Heights, IL, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2010 surrounded by family. Known affectionately as "Pop Pop" to family and friends alike, Bill Kroll was one of the 'Greatest Generation' and an exceptional human being.
He was born on July 18, 1922 in Baltimore, Maryland. Bill enlisted in the Army shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He was initially assigned to the 347th Station Hospital in Marlborough, England where he met the love of his life Sadymarie Garmire, who was a Captain in the American Red Cross. Both returned from the war and were later married on June 7, 1947 in Clarinda, Iowa. After his service in World War II and Korea, Bill spent his career in the health care industry.
Few will know a more decent, humble and gracious human being than Wilmer Edgar Kroll. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Sadymarie G. Kroll, and he is survived by his older sister Rita Kroll of Baltimore, MD. He leaves behind a daughter, Elise “Jamie” Kroll Farris of Leawood, KS, and a son Mark Garmire Kroll and his wife Pam of Overland Park, KS. Bill also leaves behind four grandchildren: Regan (and husband James) Leake of Tulsa, OK, Blythe (and husband Kato) Dee of Leadville, CO, Barrett (and wife Abbey) Kroll of Prairie Village, KS, and Madison Kroll, as well as four great-grand-children who loved and adored 'Pop Pop'.
Bill will be buried beside his wife in Audubon, IA. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 2nd from 6-8 pm at D.W. Newcomerr

A memorial mass will be held Saturday, February 6th at St. Alexander’s Church in Palos Heights, IL. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at KU Medical Center for their outstanding and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Red Cross.
