Mrs. Winnifred Bauman

April 28, 1918 — January 25, 2010

Winnifred “Beryl” Bauman, 91, of Lenexa, KS, passed away on January 25, 2010. She was born on April 28, 1918 in Princeton, KS and was the daughter of Walter and Bess Collins. Beryl attended Mt. Hope and Tawney rural schools and graduated from Ottawa High School in 1936. Beryl and her husband, Gene, moved to the Kansas City area after World War II, where she worked as a Dental Assistant, a receptionist in a medical office and then at Harzfeld’s Clothing Store. She moved to Lakeview Village in 1992 and became involved there in Volunteer work and continued her loving care for residents there as she had all her life for her family and friends. Beryl was a member of the Village Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Laurence Eugene “Gene” Bauman; her parents; and three sisters, Norma Drake, Sally Reinecke and Orpha Weidner. Survivors include her daughters, Karen (Bryan) Nelson of Shawnee, KS and Judy (Robert) Blalock of Grapevine, TX; two grandchildren, Kristi Barger and Kyle Harris; one great-granddaughter, Tess Barger, many cherished step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Beryl’s life will be held at D. W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS at 2 pm on Thursday, January 28. Visitation will begin at 1 pm. Interment will be in Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
