Xina Walker

May 19, 1916 — September 25, 2017

After more than a century of bringing love and friendship to family and friends, Xina Walker passed away peacefully on Monday, September 25, 2017.  Xina, daughter of Otto and Nellie Meador, was born in Joplin, Missouri May 19, 1916.  She was raised in Ellsworth, Kansas graduating from Ellsworth High School in 1933.  Shortly thereafter, her family moved to Wichita where she attended Wichita University, graduating in 1937.  While in school she met Charles Elbert Walker, and they married in 1940.  Their marriage lasted until Elbert's passing in 1986.  During the course of their marriage, they lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Topeka, Kansas, Pueblo, Colorado, Wichita, Kansas before moving to the Johnson County area in 1961.  In 1966 Xina returned to the workforce full-time working for the Internal Revenue Service until her retirement in 1987.

Xina was always an active and involved member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints most recently a member of the Red Bridge Ward.  She was also a life-time member of AAUW and the DAR.   After her retirement in 1987 she also became involved in volunteer work as well as indulging in her life-long interest in dance.  It was during this time of her life that she met many new friends and enjoyed an active and enjoyable social life.  it was during this time that she met Robert Ricketson and maintained a long friendship until his death in 2012.  Xina was an inspiration to her family and acquaintances for her vibrant personality and joy of life.  She loved people and enjoyed being busy.  Fortunately, she was able to live independently and able to maintain her home until June of this year.

Her family would like to thank all her friends whose support sustained her throughout her life.  In addition, appreciation and gratitude is extended to all those who helped care for her in the
last few months as she dealt with the challenges and infirmities of aging.  A special recognition to the staff at Brookdale Skilled Nursing of Overland Park for their love and care during the last three months. Xina is survived by her four children and their spouses: Ron, Martha, Mary and her husband Ron, and Alan and his wife Lisa.  She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.  While they will miss her physical presence in their lives, they are grateful for having her for so long.  Her influence and memory will undoubtedly last forever.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 30 from 10-11AM, service 11AM, at Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS. Burial will follow at Johnson County Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family would suggest that donations or
volunteer service be made to a favorite charity in Xina's memory.
